Fuel retailing requires retailers to organise and develop models that complement their business model without putting additional pressure on their already thin margins.

As fuel prices surge, the operational costs increase. The regulated margins do not accommodate the increasing costs fast enough to ensure the sustainability of the retail business. The regulators need to look at adjusting the gross profit margins, rather than focusing in the fuel prices in isolation to the full operating models of such businesses.

By looking at the card transaction costs for payments, risk and reward, the businesses will be able to service the customer end to end, whilst ensuring the long term value creation.
